When Sherlock got to the hospital, he was obviously in intense pain, though he tried not to show it.. he was drugged up pretty badly so he would sleep through the night, and he did, sleeping well into the afternoon of the next day, he was groggy and in and out of consciousness due to the drugs.

In all the time John and Sherlock had been together, Lestrade had only seen John a couple of times, they seemed to keep zigging and zagging the few times that Lestrade came to the flat in the last couple of months.
